Way back when

In the summer of 2010 I photographed my very first wedding. It was held on the North Devon coast overlooking Putsbourough Bay. The couple told me that they used to surf at the Bay and one day noticed a marquee up on the cliffs, at the same time they realised that spot was exactly where they wanted to get married.  They drove up the hill to where they thought the field would be and knocked on doors to find the owner. Finally they had some luck and met the farmer, he was having a party in the marquee but had never considered using the field for events such as weddings. After some persuasion the farmer agreed to them having their wedding on the farm. It was such a spectacular venue and the couple cherish the memories of saying their vows in front of a view which means so much to them.

This wedding holds such a special place in my heart and will remain one of my favorite weddings I’ve photographed. The couple were blessed overlooking Putsborough bay, while their guests watched from the comfort of the fabric covered straw bales. The tiny details that had gone into the décor were amazing, all the tables were dressed with mismatched vintage crockery and beautiful flowers. The meal came out in picnic baskets with sandwiches wrapped in brown paper and personalized stickers.  The Bride and Bridesmaid dresses were vintage which the bride bought from eBay and altered to fit. So much of the couples character was captured throughout the day.

It seems amazing that I photographed my first wedding nearly 7 years ago. It feels like only yesterday that I stood in that field, overlooking the Atlantic ocean, photographing such a special event. I feel blessed to play a part in all of the amazing wedding days I photograph and look forward to many more to come.
